BWB Team Volunteer Day – Supporting Dingley's Promise

Volunteering is something we genuinely enjoy at BWB. It gives us the chance to step away from our usual routines, spend time together and support organisations doing important work in our community. We have always believed that volunteering our time is as valuable as donating resources, and our recent volunteer day at Dingley's Promise was a powerful reminder of that.

In May, our team spent the day at the charity's Newbury headquarters, getting hands-on with creative tasks that directly support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It was purposeful, genuinely fun, and full of the kind of quiet impact that makes you proud and lingers long after the day ends.

Who Is Dingley's Promise

Dingley's Promise is a specialist early-years charity that provides tailored learning, play and family support for children with SEND. Their mission is simple: to give every child the best possible start in life. Their centres offer safe, nurturing environments where children can explore, communicate and grow through structured play. They also work closely with families, providing guidance, training and emotional support in the early years.

How Our Team Contributed

Our team took part in two creative activities that support both families and the charity's fundraising efforts:

• Sensory toy boxes – curated boxes filled with tactile, visual and auditory items to support sensory development. These boxes bring comfort, stimulation and joy to children who benefit from sensory-based learning.

• Mystery book wrapping – donated books were wrapped in brown paper and labelled only with handwritten clues about the plot, written by our team. These "mystery reads" are sold by the charity to raise funds for its programmes.

The activities were wonderfully creative, and the team enjoyed the challenge of selecting the right sensory items and crafting clues to intrigue future readers, which proved the trickiest part of the day. It was a day filled with collaboration, laughter and shared purpose.
